Every now and then I like to find the answers for those anonymous people who search for answers and may or may not have found them on my site. So here are the answers to the questions you have asked.

pennycompounding.jpgWhat is the 1 penny first day, 2 pennies second day, 4 pennies 3rd day…?
This question is referring to the rule of 72 or compounding by doubling - This rule teaches you how to determine the number of years it will take for your investment or your debt to double.

Divide the number 72 by the percentage rate you are paying on your debt, or earning on your investment. Here are two examples…
1> You borrowed $1,000 from your friend, who is charging you 6% interest. 72 divided by 6 is 12. That makes 12 the number of years it would take for your debt to your friend to double to $2,000 if you did not make any payments.
2> You have a savings account with $500 deposited in it. It earns 4% interest from the bank. 72 divided by 4 is 18. It will take 18 years for your $500 to double to $1,000 if you don’t make any deposits.

Does Wal-mart sell dentures?
No they don’t. But you might find a vintage pair at an online auction, of course they won’t fit your mouth.
A tip for cleaning your dentures: Denture Soak - Instead of using pricey denture tabs, soak your retainers or dentures in hydrogen peroxide like you would buy in the first aid aisle. ( This has been tried and it does work, with no bad taste. Put the usual water in the denture container and then put in one capful of peroxide and soak it over night. It didn’t taste bad as it was also brushed with toothpaste as well.)

Are there any Dave Ramsey or Howard Clark coupon codes?
I have searched and found nothing for Clark Howard. Dave Ramsey will email you a code if you sign up for his total money make-over program. Some codes that have been used are 2CDBP09 & 2VHBP09.

Homemade alternative to Woolite?
Via Thrifty fun:
2 tablespoons dishwashing liquid (like Dawn)
3 gallons of lukewarm water
Soak the sweater in water for 5 minutes. Squeeze suds through fabric and remove any soil. Never pull, stretch or twist the fabric while cleaning. Rinse all the soap out of the fabric and gently squeeze out much of the water.

Then take the damp sweater and lay it between two towels. Roll up the sweater and towels like you would a bedroll. You may need to do this a couple times. Then you will want to lay out the sweater to dry. Make sure the sweater is back to its natural shape before you set it out to dry because it will dry in whatever shapes you leave it. If you hang dry wool sweaters they will stretch so dry it flat.

denture wearers beware! do not brush your dentures with regular toothpaste…they can do irreparable harm due to the abrasives that are used in their ingredients. denture toothpaste is fine…also, i have found that if you must use denture adhesive (any brand) it is very difficult to just brush this stuff off..soak overnight first then brush the dentures before putting back in mouth. dave is right about the cost..add adhesive and toothepaste to the tablets and you have easily spent $18-20.00 a month.

A friend of mine has brushed her dentures with regular toothpaste for the last 20-odd years with no ill effects.

the denture cleaners here in canada only cost about 5 cents a piece if not on sale and do a much better job than the cap of peroide mixed in water- the peroide even at full strength do not remove tea stains and some other stains- I would rather pay the dollar and fifty cents a month and have clean teeth in the end- the adhesive is of course more expensive if you need to use it - but has nothing to do with cleaning your teeth- yes, I have tried both and the peroxide also did not give me a clean feeling- as it will not destroy stuck on foods - I know walmart sells the cleaners in a box with 108 tabs for less than five dollars in Canada

there is a big difference in dentures that i failed to mention. many older dentures are made of porcelain-real quality, but nowadays extremely expensive if you can even get them. the porcelaine dentures are not harmed by regular toothepaste, but are also fragile(dont’ drop em’ in the sink). now, newer dentures will scratch and crack as well - so the gentler you handle them and clean them the better. dentures are also a major expense if replacing. $3000.00 and up for a full set.

Ahhh - that does make a difference. It stinks that quality has gone down while price has gone up.
