After the winter muck has been tracked into your house for the upteenth time, sometimes you need to figure out a good way to clean up without stinking up your house to high heaven. Here are a few tips and recipes for natural cleaning.
-All Purpose Cleaners-
~~ Mix 2 teaspoons of borax and 5 cups of hot water. Add 1/2 teaspoon of dishwashing soap
~~ Clean with vinegar on its own or diluted with water
~~ Sprinkle baking soda on hard to clean surfaces, mix in a bit of water, let sit and clean up
~~ If you need to unclog a drain, or just want to help keep them clear, place 1 cup of baking soda down the drain. Pour 1 cup of vinegar down the drain. Let sit for 15 minutes. Pour hot water or boiling water down the drain.
-Cleaning Tubs, Toilets and Sinks-
1. Use a Large holed “salt-shaker” style Tupperware or Rubbermaid container
2. Fill it with Baking Soda and dump in a couple table spoons of Salt
Then use it like you would scouring powder. The salt helps as an abrasive and the baking soda is much easier on your plumbing as well. If you are partial to bleach, put 2-3 parts water to 1 part bleach in a spray bottle and you will be fine.
-Floor Cleaners-
Mix 2 cups of vinegar with 4 cups of hot water (1:2 ratio)
Add 2 tablespoons of dishwashing soap to a bucket of hot water. Rinse with a vinegar/water mix.

We are always having trouble with our drains, I will definitely try the vinegar and baking soda next time. Vinegar is great for cleaning. Non-toxic and earth friendly too!
