I know you get tired wandering around the store buying the stuff you need, but please don’t forget that you still want to watch what is being rung up or check your receipt before you leave the store.
It does pay to keep an eye on the price of items and make sure you are being charged fairly. In the case of one woman it paid her well (Pa. woman wins complaint against Kmart over tax on toilet paper). I don’t think I have ever checked the taxes against what I buy, but I do know that I keep track of the price on items and I will hold up the line waiting on a price check

What I have started to do is to keep a mental tally of the cost of what I’ve put in my basket as I go through the store. That way, when I get the total at the register, I’ll know if it sounds right or if something has been misrung. Now, I don’t usually get a whole lot of stuff at any one shopping trip–usually under $30 worth–but if you do you might use a calculator.
